This catalogue is the outcome of my
recent friendship with Giovanni Truncellito. Some time ago Cesare Nissirio showed me the
photographs of the works of this artist, underlining the shared passion for Opera. I have
left it to the authors of the other texts to develop and illustrate his art, consequently
limiting my work and competence but I was obliged to myself to show here the sentiment
inspired by the artist's paintings.
To materialise music through pictorial expression is an art or rather a rare gift. The
first time I saw Giovanni's paintings, and above all "Dolce e Calmo" I had the
feeling I could hear a musical composition and at the same time I was irradiated by a
penetrating light.
I look at and listen to his painting. What fascinates me most, apart from the mythical and
operatic theme, is the sublimation of the body and soul through the beauty of the faces
and the colours which reminisce the elements of the earth which illuminate the whole
painting.
I am grateful to the artist for choosing Grenoble for his first exhibition in France; his
paintings are the image of man: moving, beautiful and inspired.
